Session
Title: Matching Genetics to the Environment
Date: Wed Aug 4, 2021
Time: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Moderator: Noah Freeman

Engineering capabilities are outpacing agronomic knowledge. We address how to improve agronomic trials to determine how to leverage the tools available. This agronomy close look will include on-farm trials, seed genetics, liquid starter and the confluence of planters, genetics, and fertilizer.

G x M in Wheat for Efficiency, Yield, and End-Use

The deeper we dig into the G x M relationship the more we understand and not only that can we but we should manage winter wheat cultivars differently for specific yield and end-use qualities in mind.

Brian Arnall (speaker)
Professor Precision Nutrient Management
Oklahoma State University
Stillwater, OK 74078
US

Dr. Arnall’s extension, teaching, and research efforts are focused on precision technologies and nutrient management in all of Oklahoma’s cropping systems with an emphasis in site specific techniques.  He works closely with extension educators and industry personnel to improve nutrient management practices in Oklahoma that will lead to increased profitability of Oklahoma producers.  He currently has several ongoing studies focused at the developed of methods to use sensor based technologies, nitrogen fertilizer timing and placement, increasing nutrient use efficiency, and improvement phosphorus fertilizer recommendations. In addition Brian has a crew of developers producing iOS and Andriod applications

Uniform Field Conditions Don't Exist: Why Plant Uniform Prescriptions?

Uniform seed selection can only get you so far in a field. Aaron Gault will discuss how factors above and below ground should be considered when making seed selection, helping to elevate performance throughout the season. The tools exist to understand your farm on a more precise level. Aaron will dive into the variables that drive those decisions and how Advanced Agrilytics uses like environments to predict just how well specific genetics will perform in your fields.

Aaron Gault (speaker)
Co-Founder and Lead Agronomist
Advanced Agrilytics

US

As lead agronomist, Aaron focuses on in-season crop management and the understanding of real-time crop performance  influenced by the environmental conditions of any given growing season. Aaron’s ability to integrate yield response probability with in-field stimuli is a key component of Advanced Agrilytics sub-acre approach to understanding yield. Before joining Advanced Agrilytics, Aaron worked as a professional agronomist for leading agriculture companies.  Aaron has been a Certified Crop Advisor since 2003 and is an active member of the professional association. Aaron received his bachelor's from Purdue University.

NK Cropwise Seed Selector

NK Cropwise Seed Selector is a set of tools Syngenta has to offer. The NK Sales Team and their Retail partners can gain access to hybrid and variety data through Product Analyzer and make product placement easy with the use of our Seed Selector.  The technology combines years of yield data collected from local trials, a wide range of growing conditions, and side by side comparisons with competitive hybrids and varieties. It is a tool set build with our Retail partners in mind to assist with building product confidence and delivering improved product placement.

I am Macy Heetland, the NK Digital Enablement Lead at Syngenta. I work with our field sales team to build awareness and adoption of our digital tools available to them and our retail partners through the NK Cropwise Seed Selector. I am grew up in norther Iowa on a small row cropping farm where I developed my passion for agriculture. I attended Iowa State University where I obtained my degree in Agronomy. Right out of school, I joined Syngenta and since have spent time in Northeast Montana/Northwest North Dakota, South Dakota, Kentucky, and now call Missouri home. My diverse background with sales, support, and digital all play a key role in the success I have had driving digital adoption with our NK sales team across the United States.

Nutrient Map to Higher Corn Yield

Once all the easy boxes have been checked for a grower chasing high yields where do they go next?  AgriGold has been chasing this question by trying to determing if there is aa correlation to nutrients levels in a corn plant and final corn yield?  The short answer is yes and we answered our question through a systematic tissue sampling approach.  AgriGold has developed a road map that can help lead growers to finding their limiting factor of corn nutrition and we will discuss some of the key takeaways during the presentation.

John Brien (speaker)
Eastern Agronomy Manager
AgriGold

I am a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Agronomy.  I have been helping answer growers questions and selecting high producing genetics with AgriGold for over 20 years.  I have strong working knowledge of commercial production systems and have been challenged by my growers to help them find their limiting factors on their farms so they can increase yields.  This challenge has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of how a corn plant works and how to manage it for higher yields.  Through my current role, I interact with agronomists and growers in all the diverse growing environments, East of the Mississippi river.

Bayer’s Short Stature Corn Unlocks Innovation in Agronomic Systems

Bayer is developing Short Stature Corn, a true game changing innovation for growers in terms of yield stability, precision management opportunities and sustainability. This talk will walk through what short stature corn is and describe the benefits of both the technology as well as the system management opportunities the technology could unlock.
