In-field data collection is time consuming and expensive, but incredibly valuable. Growers want to know what works on their fields, with their soils and environmental conditions. Aker will discuss examples of several transformative technologies and practices helping growers with in-season management including:

  • Soil mapping
  • Emergence variability
  • Trends in aerial imagery (multispectral and others)
  • Crop scouting automation (under the canopy)
  • Advancements in yield prediction

Biography

Orlando is the Co-founder & CEO of Aker Technologies, Inc., a venture-backed precision crop diagnostic and analytics company headquartered at the Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, MO. Orlando is a goal-oriented technology leader with experience in start-ups, buy-outs, venture capital and established companies across telecommunication and agriculture industries. Notable exits include Boingo Wireless, where Orlando led product marketing. Orlando was the Director of the Office of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology for the State of Illinois where he led $78M government-sponsored investments for early stage startups. Orlando holds a BS Computer Engineering from University of Puerto Rico, MS in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology and MBA at Stuart School of Business. Orlando commutes between Chicago, Florida and St. Louis and he is passionate about technology, STEM education and improving farming practices around the world.
