Carbon Markets

Regency AB
Tue, Aug 3, 2021
12:30pm to 12:40pm

This introduction to soil carbon markets will cover terms such as offset, inset, additionality, permanence, discount, and leakage. We will briefly introduce soil carbon measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) including how models might be used in MRV. As well, we will touch on the many co-benefits of increasing soil organic carbon using soil health management systems such as erosion control, water quality, drought resilience, and farm profitability.

Biography

Dr. Dianna Bagnall serves as a Research Soil Scientist for the Soil Health Institute. She is an Applied soil physicist specializing in soil physical health and socioeconomic dynamics of soils. Her research includes developing functions that show the effect of soil carbon on plant-available water, on-farm soil health assessments, qualitative analysis of farmer interviews, development of novel soil structure scanning methodology, and both measurement and modeling of preferential water flow in shrink-swell soils. Dr. Bagnall received an M.S. in Soil Science at Texas A&M University in 2014 and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 2019.
