Nitrogen Management Tools - Needs, Promises and Pitfalls
Producers have different nitrogen (N) management concerns depending on the previous crop, yield goal, soil properties, topography, anticipated weather, manure availability, fertilizer and equipment options, time to evaluate in-season crop growth, and technical competence. An irrigated producer in Nebraska (Paul Gangwish) will share his needs, frustrations and opportunities and then Jim Schepers will share information about the products and services that various commercial entities offer to help address producer needs in general. Some offerings are aimed at being a one-stop shop and others merely provide unique services or types of information. A non-inclusive group of vendors was characterized in terms of how they address soil, water, climate, and agronomic considerations. These will be discussed in general and a more detailed spreadsheet will be provided.
