BIO: Jeremy was raised on a family farm near Olney, Illinois. He graduated from Wabash Valley Jr. College with an associate of applied science degree in Agriculture production and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Eastern Illinois University. Jeremy came to work for Wabash Valley Service Company as a crop specialist in 1999 and in July 2006 accepted the position as Technology Specialist for Crop IMS, an information management and scouting company based in south central Illinois. For the past three years, he has worked with growers to collect a wide variety of data for in-depth data analysis. He has complete several On-Farm trials ranging from hybrid, foliar fungicide, foliar fertilizer and tillage studies.

BIO: Chuck Zimmerman is the President and co-owner, along with his wife, Cindy, of ZimmComm New Media. Chuck is an accomplished public speaker and trainer on the subject of social media and provides consulting services to major agribusinesses as well as farm member organizations. He started his career in agricultural communications as the Broadcast Manager for Florida Farm Bureau Federation in 1984 where he was one of the founders of the state’s first commercial farm radio network. ZimmComm has pioneered the use of online publishing and social networking platforms as tools for various types of internal and external marketing purposes like public relations and communications. The company currently publishes several news blogs and podcasts of its own. These include AgWired.com, Domestic Fuel.com, Precision Pays.com and World Dairy Diary.com. The company is considered the industry pioneer and leader in using new and social media for agricultural communications. To date ZimmComm has developed websites and podcasts for over 20 different agribusiness companies and organizations. Additionally, the company specializes in the production of news releases utilizing multi-media content like audio, video and images. They have a branded service called AgNewsWire (www.agnewswire.com) which focuses on distributing releases to agricultural journalists. Recently the company has adapted their multi-media release service to create virtual press rooms for organizational events. Chuck is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Journalism and has worked in public relations and broadcasting for over 25 years. He has primarily worked with clients involved in agribusiness and still specializes in agricultural communications. Chuck is a member of the National Agri-Marketing Association, Agricultural Relations Council, National Association of Farm Broadcasting, American Agricultural Editors Association, Livestock Publications Council, Association for Downloadable Media, International Federation of Agricultural Journalists and National Press Photographers Association.

Social Media for Agriculture

This session will look at several aspects of social media including how access to instant updates through wireless technology is changing the game. Chuck will focus on using social media mechanisms like Twitter and Facebook and how they can be used to benefit agribusinesses. Jeremy will focus on how things like apps and other wireless technology is playing a role in the truck and the tractor cab.
