Technology in Practice on the Farm

Producer talks are always a favorite at InfoAg. In this session we highlight two progressive farmers in their use of technology in making decisions.

Presentations

The Mitchell Farm

Lots of gear, lots of data, lots of decisions. How we use technology to manage our business.

Clay Mitchell

Farmer
The Mitchell Farm

While gaining a BS in Biomedical Engineering at Harvard, Clay bought farmland south of Waterloo, Iowa near his family’s century farm. While working in academia and in the private sector, he continued to grow the farm, where he now spends a majority of his professional time. In 2000 he became the first farmer in the Midwest to use autosteering technology. His primary pastime is high altitude ski-mountaineering, to which he dedicates at least one month every year.

Fairholme Farms

We will show how the Fairholme Farms are using Precision Agriculture tools in their daily operation. We will present how the farm used these technologies to develop variable rate nutrient and seed prescriptions, demonstrate how on-farm trials were used to develop a new VRN recommendation, and show how it is being implemented this growing season.
