Precision Decisions
Three sessions presented by Farm Progress Publications
Precision Decisions:
Tinkering with electronic nuts and bolts Making precision
equipment talk to each other
Tuesday, August 7, 2001
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Moderator: Mike Wilson
Speakers:
- Trouble-shooting problems with yield monitors, receivers and
other GPS-related equipment:
Andy Hill, President,
Premier Technology, Auburn, Ind.
- Expanding uses for yield monitors (Using the 'brains' in
tractors while spreading fertilizer, planting, etc to control
operations and record data). Is it practical? Profitable? Plug and
play ready? Mike Olson, AgLeader Technology.
- Light bars and in-field guidance: new star on precision
horizon?
Greg Blumhoff, Purdue Site-Specific Management Center
- How farmer and consultant learned to make precision work
Kelly Robertson, Consultant
Precision Decisions Revisited:
What have we learned in five
years? What do we know now that we wish we knew then?
Tuesday, August 7, 2001
3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Moderator: Tom Bechman
Speakers:
- Precision on-farm five years ago and today. Kent Brewer, Indiana farmer, original speaker at Precision Decisions
conference 1996; What is he still doing that he did then? What has
he given up? What is he doing now that he wasn't doing then?
- How engineering side of technology has evolved, update on
differential signals. What we still don't know about yield monitors. Dan Ess
and Sam Parsons, Purdue ag engineers.
- Agronomic side-- still more questions than answers. How
precision has opened eyes for need to think in terms of volume of
spatial data; need to better define soil types, etc. Bob Nielsen, Purdue
agronomist and Keith Morris, Lockheed-Martin (formerly
Purdue Agronomy).
- What we've learned from precision on-farm research, including
saving data when switching yield monitors. Steve Hawkins
and Jeff Boyer, Purdue Agricultural Centers.
Embracing the Web Making the shift from farming with a pencil to
farming with a mouse
Wednesday, August 8, 2001
7:30 -9:30 a.m.
Moderator: Willie Vogt
Speakers:
- How I work the web and what I've learned
Kent Krukewitt, Homer, Ill., farmer, original 'cyberfarmer,' uses web to
market farm, communicate with landlords, etc.
- Future of the Web for farmers: more interactive?
Steve Baker, CEO of Direct Ag.
- Laying the last mile of track - getting affordable, speedy
access in rural America…What are the options?
Greg Johnson, Director of Internet Services, Perry-Spenser Rural
Telephone Co. St. Meinrad, IN. Company has an aggressive program
and all their customers (rural and in town) will have DSL access by
the time of this meeting.
- Separating dreams from reality- how farmers use Web now, how
they will use it in future-
Willie Vogt, E-content
director, Farm Progress Co.
